The October 2007 QST featured this direct conversion receiver, designed by KK7P. Kangaus
has kitted the receiver, information can be found at the above link. The above photo shows
the completed board, ready to be mounted in a shield box.
The above photos show both sides of the bare circuit board. Click each for a larger view.
I'm in the process of checking out the receiver, below is a shot of the board looking like a patient in the emergency room.

The receiver is working but I'm getting lots of hum but that is to be expected. Once all the various leads are shortened and the board is placed into a shielded case, I expect all of that will go away or at least be less.
The finished receiver is shown above. All of the hum and other strange noise I was hearing has completed disappeared. With no antenna connected you hear nothing, as if there was no power applied. I've listened around on 40 meters and the MicroR2 performs quite well.
Here is a inside shot of the finished receiver.
I'm waiting for the compaion transmitter to be shipped from Kanga US. I believe this will make a nice QRP SSB station. I have a couple of amplifiers that I can use to raise the 1 mw output power of the transmitter to 5 watts and higher if needed.
