Doug Hendricks and Steve Weber teamed up to offer a forty meter single sideband and cw transceiver called the MMR-40. It is being offered as a kit at http://www.qrpkits.com. I saw a prototype at the NorCal club meeting in March. Below you can see it received a lot interest and Doug stated he had over 60 orders in the first couple of days it was for sale.

I was the first person to order the transceiver and Doug sent my kit out as a trial to determine the amount of postage he would need for each kit. I started on the kit the day after it arrived. The bare board and installed PTO screw is seen below.

I used a square to ensure the three brass nuts were square to the board.

The finished PTO coil.
The kit went together fairly quickly and I had it completed in a couple of evenings. Below you can see the finished board.

I'm going to use an external VFO with the transceiver. The NorCal club has been selling the FCC-1 and Fcc-2 kits for for over a year and they works great with this rig. I added a RCA jack to the right side of the rear panel and ran some RG174 to the 3 pin LO pads. The only modification that needs to be made to the MMR-40 board is to cut the trace that connects the two LO pads, this is done on the bottom of the board. I put a 3 pin header on those pads so I can use the PTO by putting a shorting strap between the the 2 LO pins if needed. Below you can see the the added RCA connector and 3 pin header.

Finished VFO enclosure.
I've made a couple of SSB contacts from here in Centeral California, one into Denver and the other into northern New Mexico. My first contact, right after I finished the rig, was via CW into the San Diego area. This is going to be a fun little rig and should get lots of use.
