The tuner upper is used to adjust an antenna or antenna tuner without transmitting. A led is used as an indicator and will dim when the antenna under test is tuned to 50 ohms.

 

The kit is mostly surface mount parts but very easy to assemble. This is an excellent kit for those wanting experience with SMT parts.

There are a couple things to notice in the above photo. Althought the kit was supplied with some small coax I soldered the connector directly to the board. The kit was supplied without a switch, I added a header pin to be used as a power switch. Rather than mount the board with spacers I used some heavy copper wire and solder it to the case and board.
